Discussing seventeenth-century literature in contexts as rich in book production as the Republic of Venice often appears very difficult. Sometimes, however, narratives apparently distant from pictorial production such as theatrical and musical scripts, represent important documents for research on collectors and on the recovery of works of art. This contribution aims to give importance to some innovations that emerged during the monographic study, still in progress, on the Roman painter Francesco Ruschi (ca. 1600?-1661), documented in Venice since 1630. The canvas with Diana, rediscovered in precarious conditions at the deposits of the Museo Correr, and the Allegory of Painting, previously unpublished and found in Venetian inventories, offer an update on the artist still unknown to the general public. Through stylistic and conservative analysis and some proposals for historical reconstruction, it is therefore possible to try to recover and protect an important piece of Venetian intellectual and figurative culture.
