The present essay aims to bring to the attention of studies the history of the Davis’ collection, a rich American family that settled in Naples at the end of the nineteenth century, purchasing the Villa Floridiana. Through the reconstruction of the life, passions, and connections of its initiator, Alexander Henry Davis, the article aims to add a new contribution to the history of the many foreigners who choose to reside in Italy, in buildings full of history, furnished with precious antiques. Adequately studied for Florence and for Rome, the phenomenon is almost entirely unexplored for Naples. It is also in the light of the scarce existing indications that this contribution should be read, with the intention, for now, only to initiate research and offer possible avenues for study.
