Joe Guldi’s monograph traces a century of land struggles, reconstructing how demands voiced by peasants in the distant Indian and Irish countrysides gained strength and reached the offices of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Between the 1950s and 1960s, the experts of the Rome-based agency had great empathy toward small farmers and landless peasants. De Prospo proposes a critical reading of Guldi’s book, linking it to the history of rural development
