The rise of far-right parties on the global scene has triggered a debate involving historians and political scientists who have questioned the relevance of the category "neo-fascism" to understand present and post-1945 global history. The article proposes to overturn the approach: rather than questioning the limits of the category "fascism", it asks what would happen if we consider fascism as a mere residual phenomenon
