80This article examines the cultural practices that have led to the troubled normalization of the production and consumption of milk. By adopting a transcultural lens, informed by antispeciesist and ecotransfeminist principles, I offer a deconstructive reading of dominant narratives across media that conceal, to varying degrees, the inherent violence of dairy farming. A critical analysis of marketing strategies and semiotic representations surrounding milk not only exposes the oppressive ideologies and power structures (capital, racial, biopolitical) at the roots of problematic ecologies of care under domestication, but also the gendered landscapes and colonial systems fueling the exploitation of reproductive labor and fertile bodies. Ultimately, the aim is to expand notions of reproductive justice and bodily autonomy beyond the «human» and to speculate on the possibility of a post-dairy society as a fundamental step to achieving collective liberation.
