203The most recent books on the history of terrorism in Italy show a significant development of proper historical research on this subject, despite the conditioning exercised by the prevailing media narrative. The volumes reviewed here – very different from each other – use a multiplicity of sources and show that the profound differences between the various events and processes lead one to speak of terrorisms rather than terrorism. With a social and cultural history approach, Sergio Luzzatto and Monica Galfré propose an original focus on left-wing terrorism, the former in a choral key and the latter by delving into the Donat Cattin case. In a more traditional political-ideological key, Davide Serafino reconstructs the Giangiacomo Feltrinelli affair, while Vladimiro Satta discusses the results of political reconstructions and judicial enquiries, from the Moro case to the Bologna massacre. Miguel Gotor instead interweaves the parable of the «Seventies generation» with his interpretation of the «strategy of tension». While questioning the general framework in which the various expressions of Italian terrorism were set, Benedetta Tobagi shows attention to the problem of sources, emphasising the importance of judicial sources for an overall picture of neo-fascist massacres. Finally, Chiara Zampieri reconstructs in depth the production of anti-terrorism legislation and Roberto Colozza reviews the history of the «7 April affaire».
