59In tribute to Silvana Castignone’s significant studies on legal realism, this essay – dedicated to her memory – examines the contribution made, particularly during the 1930s, by American legal realists, and especially Jerome Frank, to the debate on legal education in the United States. The aim is to situate this analysis within the broader context of a reflection on legal education in Italy and on the role of legal clinics, whose historical origins are often, albeit not entirely accurately, traced back to American legal realism and to the publication of Frank’s famous essay "Why Not a Clinical Lawyer-School?"
