This paper explores the role of translation and interpretation in shaping legal traditions, emphasizing the importance of interpretative communities. Following authors such as Hobsbawm, Derrida, and Fish, the study highlights how tradition is essentially an invention, shaped by interpretative practices within specific communities. Translation is not merely a transfer of meanings between languages but an hermeneutic activity that reflects the relationship between text, interpreter, and community. The apparent impossibility of perfect translation, paradoxically, constitutes its very condition of possibility, as every translation is already an interpretative act. Finally, the paper underscores how meaning is neither purely objective nor subjective but emerges from the collective practices of interpreters who, through shared interpretative strategies, shape traditions and their transformations over time.
