This paper consists of some reflections based on the volume La bella addormentata. La scienza del diritto e il 'problemaì della sua autonomia by Dante Valitutti. By immediately revealing the methodological objective suggested by the author, the issue of the autonomy of legal science is examined within the parameters of the authors cited and studied by him. It is argued that the foundation of the autonomy of legal science cannot disregard the epistemological issue of the jurist, both then and now, starting from reflections on their own time and the tools it provides to interpreters to concretely justify the logic of their activity. The search for a method has shaped its conceptions, intertwining ontology and epistemology, and justifying the existence of legal science as a voluntary or involuntary aid to judicial activity.
