The rise of streaming platforms and the consequent platformisation of the audiovisual industries has brought the issue of cultural diversity back to the centre of academic debate, especially in the field of media industry studies and the critical political economy of communication. These research perspectives, however, focus on analysing the cultural policies of countries that feel threatened by this rise, or on analysing the diversity of the audiovisual content proposed by platforms, focusing on the power of the latter in directing users’ consumption. These studies, although necessary, tend to underestimate the analysis of the cultural diversity of products to which platform users are exposed, in their everyday life, through their active consumption practices. The aim of this article is therefore to try to rebalance this debate by focusing on the question of the cultural diversity actually practised in everyday life by users, from the theoretical perspective of cultural studies and with a qualitative-inductive approach to field research.
