While certainly not unique in Europe in having a State Church, the religious settlement in the United Kingdom has features which are not shared with other European jurisdictions. In particular, the Monarch is "Supreme Governor" of the Church of England and, as a result, Roman Catholics are excluded by law from succeeding to the Crown – an unusual and probably unique example of "family and heritage in religious rights".
