541On 26 February 2025 the European Commission adopted the Omnibus Proposal to amend the European corporate sustainability legal framework in light of the need for competitiveness highlighted by the recent economic and geo-political scenario. This article examines the Omnibus Proposal, paying special attention to the amendments to the EU Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence (CS3D) and their potential impact on the protection of human rights along the global value chain. Taking into account the initial stages of negotiations within the European Parliament and Council, as well as the potential deregulatory effect on issues such as due diligence duties, civil liability, and stakeholder engagement, the article argues that the proposed amendments risk making the upcoming corporate sustainability instrument ineffective at protecting human rights, without providing companies with legal certainty or reduced burdens.
