This article explores the transformation of the French legal response to sectarian deviation (dérives sectaires), particularly through Law No. 2024-420. It argues that the law marks a shift from punishing concrete harm to targeting the process of psychological subjugation itself. This shift reveals a deeper reconfiguration of secularism (laïcité) as a mechanism of surveillance and control over belief.
