The article provides an in-depth analysis of the health system in South Tyrol. It discusses the legislative framework, the organization of the provincial health service, and the financial aspects. The article highlights the unique structure of this health system, covers the provincial health planning, the relationship between public and private healthcare, waiting times, as well as patient mobility for hospital admission. All in all, this snapshot of the South Tyrolean health system clearly shows that it does not exhibit significant critical issues. The financial situation is solid, and the system meets the health needs of the citizens. However, there are still areas for improvement, related to the waiting lists and the percentage achievement of the Essential Levels of Care.
