Health status and quality of healthcare in Italy, thanks to the National Health Service, in many respects are still better than in other developed countries, but there are many alarms today. The share of families with catastrophic health spending in Italy is very high: this leads to a lack of respect for the fundamental right to health and malfunctioning of the health service. Since the LEA achievement scenario indicates better results for ordinary statute regions compared to special statute regions, warnings should be drawn from this. Instead, it is necessary to increase the level of financing of national healthcare needs, share international indications aimed at strengthening people-centered healthcare systems, invest in healthcare professionals and operators and pay more attention to the healthcare needs of the most fragile and disadvantaged people (elderly sick and non-self-sufficient people, disabled people, poor people, refugees, migrants, homeless people).
