The article reconstructs the highlights of Altiero Spinelli’s experience in the Chamber of Deputies, analysing his participation in the Conference of Group Chairmen, his work in the Foreign Affairs Committee, his speeches in the Assembly, and his path within the European Parliament, which was marked by close attention to the issue of the Community budget and, above all – after the introduction of direct elections in 1979 – by the ambition to launch a constituent process leading to the creation of a political Union.
