The essay examines Luigi Lucchini’s work at the Siena Law School, beginning with his inaugural lecture for the course in criminal law and procedure: "On the Political Dignity of Criminal Law", in which he anchored the «science» to the rule of law. The essay then highlights the liberal and protective dimension of his "Appunti delle lezioni", along with his interest in the «Criminal Man», which he explored with students during «scientific excursions of the Criminal Section of the Legal Circle», visiting prisons and penal colonies in Tuscany.
