On 30 April 1959, during Milazzo’s Sicilian government supported by both Msi and Pci, Luigi Sturzo warned against Italy’s drift between right and left and the opportunism of minor parties. His words denounced milazzismo, which broke the Dc’s popular-centrist tradition in favor of a new political balance. This study retraces that turning point, focusing on the 1953 Messina Congress and the generational shift from Sturziani to Fanfani’s Democratic Initiative.
