The article focuses on some important initiatives to consolidate the memory of Simona Mafai, a member of the Italian Communist Party, senator, municipal councillor in Palermo, and an activist in women’s and anti-Mafia movements. A few years after her death in 2019 the first historical studies on her life and work have been published and her papers have been made available to scholars reorganising and transferring her archive, in accordance with Mafai’s wishes, at two prominent left-wing cultural institutions in Palermo, the Gramsci Institute and the "Udi" (Italian Women’s Union) Women’s Library.
