When it was first published in its original language (2015), Ray's book analysed here filled a gap in our knowledge of women's contribution to scientific culture in the early modern period, which the author investigated through the lens of textual representation. The Italian translation of the book is part of a trend of studies on the history of gendered science in the early modern period and taps into a publishing "fad" that is - perhaps - a reflection of the times.
