His article aims to explore the recent decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union regarding the Superleague case. The Court, on the one hand, confirmed its well-established jurisprudence, affirming the subjection of sport to the rules of the European Union, particularly in the areas of competition and fundamental freedoms; on the other hand, it examined the compatibility or otherwise of FIFA and UEFA's rules with European law. The Court concluded by pointing out that the prior authorization rules imposed by UEFA and FIFA constitute both an anti-competitive practice and an abuse of dominant position, as well as a violation of the freedom to provide services.
