The interest of the European Union in the digital space is ever increasing in the perspective of a systematic regulation of some sectors, which are pillars of digital relations. Over the years, the European Union recognized the legal protection of new rights in the framework of digital space. Network access, legal protection of individual rights, right to digital services and environment are some of the rights connected to the new status of digital citizen. The systematic nature of such rights finds a recent development in the European Declaration on digital rights and principles by the European Commission, as reported in the draft dated 26 January 2022. This study aims to provide an overview of the key elements of a digital space, also with a view to a possible development of a digital federalism of the European Union.
