Building on an analysis of the evolution of the "European approach" to countering digital disinformation, the paper focuses on the regulatory framework introduced by Regulation 2024/1689 – including the prohibition of manipulative practices, the regulation of high-risk systems, and transparency obligations – analyzing the contribution (and the limits) of the AI Act in addressing digital disinformation and safeguarding the democratic values of the European Union.
