Fashion allows us to observe power relations, conspicuous consumption, the spectacle of the self, the processes of imitation and differentiation, the excess of production and, consequently, of its waste, and the exploitation of raw materials and labor. We are within a global reality that is facing the environmental repercussions of the logic of consumerism that has been rampant since the middle of the last century. Today we are asking ourselves how we can reverse course and how we can do so in our daily lives. Perhaps the first step is to become aware of what the constant purchase of cheap garments means. We look at the label of our garments and ask ourselves a question: where do my clothes come from? This article stems from the reflections that emerged during the last academic years in which the proponents carried out research and coordination of a working group composed of students in their 3rd year of a bachelor's degree in Sociology (Roma Tre). Numerous aspects related to environmental issues have been addressed: the perception and awareness of new generations, corporate greenwashing, circular economy and environmental policies. Through the collection of secondary data and interviews with experts, it emerged how the production system of the linear economy should be replaced by a circular perspective, obtaining new functions, such as with eco-sustainable fashion or to the purchase of second hand clothes.
