87The gaming environment is often presented as a harmless distraction, which suggests a safe place where users play and spend their time. As a result of this narrative, the communication potential of this environment has yet to be explored extensively. Discord, an application created for gaming and widely used by the gaming community to facilitate communications, is an excellent vector for connecting users worldwide. This paper argues that Discord, in addition to its entertainment uses, can be exploited to commit crimes and perpetrate illegal activities. To illustrate this, a netnography approach has been employed to detect and analyze social interactions within Discord. According to the findings of this research, Discord can be exploited in various ways to commit a wide range of crimes safely and undetected, and netnography has proved to be an efficient tool for detecting crimes.
