This essay examines the distinctive hierarchy of legal sources in Italian ecclesiastical law through the lens of Constitutional Court judgment no. 20 of 2025. It retraces the evolution of the principle of «fiscal equivalence» for religious entities and the legal framework governing Church-State relations. Particular attention is devoted to the constitutional limits imposed on norms derived by the Concordat between Italy and the Holy Sea, and to the safeguarding of the supreme principles of the Italian legal order.
