The adoption of Lombardy Regional Law no. 3 of 5 February 2024 marks an important evolution in the regulation of food districts and the promotion of the agri-food system. Starting from the analysis of the previous regulatory framework established by Regional Law 31/2008 and its amendments, the new regulation expands its objectives in particular on sustainability, social cohesion, biodiversity conservation and food waste reduction. One of the main advances is the creation of the District Council, a dedicated body that promotes public-private participation. The regional legislative framework provides a new governance model that positions Lombardy among the most advanced interventions to address contemporary challenges in the sector.
