188This essay presents the instructions for the illuminator in the Venetian vernacular, still visible in the margins of the codex Bodmer 78, a late 14th-century manuscript which presented Guido delle Colonne’s Historia destructionis Troiae. These instructions, written in the margins of the cards or close to the miniatures and which have survived scraping and trimming, represent an exceptional tool for the purposes of codicological study, because they reveal the composite nature of the illuminated manuscript, and for linguistic study, because they highlight, if not the copyist’s own voice, at least a state of language very close to that of the person who created the codex.
