The essay reflects on community in the Church of Pope Francis. Today, the challenge of Pope Francis consists not so much in proposing new forms of community, but in the ability to identify the criteria from which we can build one and the need to achieve it in a context of strong interdependencies. The essay analyzes this challenge through two pivotal concepts of Francis’ pontificate: brother/sister, as a reference for structuring relationships between human beings and with the living world; the tension between “centerµ and “peripheriesµ.
