In Italy, for at least a decade, the decrease in businesses started by Italian citizens has corresponded to the increase in businesses started by people born abroad. This is a phenomenon that has been consolidating in recent years with peculiar characteristics and that does not yet appear to be adequately integrated with local production systems. The essay addresses the analysis of the phenomenon and its dynamics, also offering indications on policies and services useful for allowing greater integration of foreign entrepreneurship in the Italian production system. In particular, the ethnic components of the various business activities and the evolution of the positioning of companies in the Italian market are analyzed, with attention to the role of female and youth entrepreneurship and the potential of the phenomenon is analyzed. The aim is to verify the conditions necessary to support the consolidation of a presence that is absolutely useful to the Italian economic and social system, also as a factor of active inclusion.
