The paper engages with the debate on the study of subjective work-related attitudes by presenting Weberian-inspired theoretical and methodological tools. In order to address the lack of clarity and scarcity of studies concerning the subjective dimensions of work, this essay identifies a distinction between the notions of "meaning" and "sense" of work. Additionally, it introduces an ideal-typical classification of work-related senses interpreted according to Weber’s theory of social action. These resources enable an in-depth analysis of subjective representations of work and a new research approach to tackle the challenges of the post-fordist work environment, encompassing multiple forms of work and the ensuing social and political dynamics, as the representation of interests
