The crisis of the idea of progress in Germany between the 19th and 20th centuries constitutes an important moment in the history of political philosophy that allows us to explain the weakness of liberal and democratic perspectives. This crisis is one of the outcomes of the dissolution of the Hegelian philosophy but above all it is the thermometer of German political tensions in an anti-Enlightenment and anti-positivist key that characterize the rejection of the processes of modernization and rationalization considered the product of foreign cultures, particularly English and French. Starting from the end of the 19th century, in Germany developed various philosophical-political currents (both conservative and revolutionary) that shared an anti-progressive, anti-liberal, anti bourgeois and anti-modern sentiment. The main authors who provided the philosophical basis for these political currents were Friedrich Nietzsche and Oswald Spengler, whose fortune crossed the borders of Germany and extended to Europe.
