309The Centre for Cultural Research ("Zentrum für Kulturforschung" - abbreviated ZfKf) and its predecessor "Institut für Projektstudien", originally part of the German news magazine DER SPIEGEL, dates back over 50 years. A quick look at the history of this independent institute with its focus on culture-related policies - a field of research that is not much older - could be interesting. However, an attempt to describe the ZfKf's complex research profile as well as its governance, partners and financing of its projects and publications in a reasonably complete way, on just a few pages, would clearly excessive here. Therefore, this article deals only with main aspects, including early flagship projects such as the "Authors' Report" and the "Artists' Enquiry" (1971-75). While its name has changed from time to time, I will use mainly the best-known acronym ZfKf in this short tour d'horizon.
