605In the wake of the Paris Agreement, the European Union has set itself the goal to be climate-neutral by 2050 (namely, an economy with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions). In France, the «national low-carbon strategy» sets middle and long-term goals to guide all emitting sectors towards decarbonisation. In particular, the industrial sector is called to double its achievements by 2030 compared with its historical trajectory. Taking into account this institutional agenda, the present study seeks to enlighten the reality of decarbonisation with a bottom-up approach, identifying levers and obstacles as they are perceived by companies. To do this, a survey was carried out in partnership with KPMG among a panel of 38 large corporations located in France, including 29 industrial companies. Survey results show that companies are giving priority to energy efficiency, the least costly of all levers, but they are facing financial, economic and technological barriers in their complete decarbonisation process (Diop and Lolo 2023).
