69This study employed a two-wave dataset to understand the relational dynamics linking countermedia (i.e., typically digital alternative information publishers and outlets that explicitly challenge the legitimacy of the mainstream media) attendance and right-wing extremism in the United States. The results of a cross-lagged panel model indicated that (1) those on the extreme right selectively attend to countermedia content and (2) that attendance to countermedia content is supportive of extreme right ideological orientations. Taken as a whole, the findings provide evidence of a mutualistic relationship between countermedia attendance and right-wing extremity.
