32The article explores the fear that AI’s rise might undermine human centrality, leading to a new form of human slavery to non-human agents. Reasons for this fear include the underestimation of European efforts to regulate AI for human dignity and skepticism from humanities toward the hard sciences. However, modern scientific culture emphasizes uncertainty over certainty in predictions and values human creativity over mere adherence to natural laws. This fallibilistic approach is shared by legal scholars who, since the mid-20th century, have sought to reconcile respect for legal forms with openness to historical changes. To truly appreciate European AI regulation, one must recognize the fallibility of human knowledge and embrace historical dynamics.
