Gender incongruence in childhood and adolescence presents complex clinical and developmental challenges that cannot be addressed through simplified or ideologically driven frameworks. This article highlights the importance of a scientifically grounded understanding of gender identity development, emphasizing concepts such as equifinality and multifinality. It explores the role of comorbid psychological conditions and the impact of minority stress on mental health. Recognizing the specific psychological weight of gender-related distress is essential for appropriate clinical assessment and intervention. Minimizing or dismissing such experiences risks reinforcing stigma and contributing to poorer health outcomes. A rigorous, non-dismissive approach is crucial to ensure ethical and effective care for gender-diverse youth.
