The paper examines the pratice of trilogues, or rather of «tripartite dialogues» between representatives of the Council, the Commission and the European Parliament during the ordinary legislative procedure of co-decision, both in first and second reading. Trilogues represent an anomaly that is difficult to find in other experiences of parliamentarism. They are characterized by a high degree of informality and low transparency, both in procedures and in reporting. The aim is to demonstrate that the democratic deficit that one would like to remedy through a necessary increased role of the European Parliament in the legislative process, is in fact relocated in the opacity of trilogues.
