126In the global context of the «care crisis», Italy offers a compelling case study. Its familistic welfare regime, gendered division of labour, and the governance of the racialisation of domestic and care work through specific policies targeting migrant workers create a particularly significant context. This paper traces the changes in the organisation and social composition of domestic and care work in Italy from the post-war period to the present. It analyses the early forms of worker organisation within Acli-colf, which sought to professionalise the sector and reframe it as a form of social service, as well as the emergence of the «migrant in the family» model of care. Finally, the article examines more recent trends, including the rise of new intermediary actors such as digital platforms, and considers their implications for the future of domestic and care work in Italy.
