The paradoxical story of the attempted, and so far failed, transfer of asylum seekers to the territory of a compliant Albania is emblematic of the Italian government’s approach to immigration and asylum policies: propaganda intentions prevail over the search for pragmatic solutions, and above all over respect for human rights and obligations deriving from international conventions. This article aims at discussing its objectives and contradictions.
