The purpose of this paper is to discuss the contribution of the Benedictine monk Dom Lambert Beauduin to the Fourth Conversation of Malines. He was the author of the famous memorandum that Cardinal Désiré Mercier read on that occasion and which predicted the reunion between the Anglican and the Catholic Church. However, his name wasn’t mentioned on that circumstance. In fact, Beauduin himself asked cardinal Mercier to conceal his identity and the reasons for this decision seem to be closely linked to the institution of Amay which was rising at that time: Beauduin’s letter, transcribed as an appendix, testifies to this. It provides a punctual reconstruction of the monk’s participation in the newborn project and it comes some year after the Fourth Conversation, at a particularly critical moment for its author, which led him in exile from Amay.
