This article aims to present the troubled affair of the Holy Office’s examination of Jacques Maritain’s theories on "New Christianity". The existence of proceedings against the French philosopher had been known for a long time, but the opening of the Vatican archives relating to the pontificate of Pius XII has opened up interesting perspectives in this regard. This contribution does not aspire to offer a complete and definitive reconstruction of the relationship between the Holy See and Maritain, but an attempt will be made to provide some coordinates to help frame more precisely an issue that is as vast and complicated as it is interesting.
