Starting from a specific interest in the practices of news fruition and the places where they take place, the article focuses on the Italian panorama of journalistic festivals. In particular, four events are analyzed, an expression of four newspapers, two long-standing mainstream outlets («Corriere della Sera» and «la Repubblica») and two more recent opinion press outlets («Il Fatto Quotidiano» and «Il Foglio»). The exploratory study sought to understand the role that journalism festivals can play in (re)defining the mission, the relationship with the community and the possibilities of promoting the brand of the newspapers that promote them. This was done through an analysis of the festival programmes and articles that have talked about them in the national press and in-depth interviews with the organisers.
