462The topic of the revolt against the West plays an increasingly important role in Hedley Bull’s internationalist thinking, driven by concrete historical factors such as the wave of protest in the 1960s and 1970s and more personal factors such as the author’s Australian identity. But above all, this theme brings together Bull’s reflections and ambiguities on the relationship between the international system and international society, and between the latter and the existence of a common cultural foundation. This is a problem that Hedley Bull never fully solved, but it remains one of the most fruitful perspectives for interpreting not only the general theme of the foundations of the international order, but also the decline of the Eurocentric international order that has already marked the 20th century and seems destined to dominate the 21st.
