In this article I highlight some aspects of the doctrine about the first object of the actual con-fused cognition ("cognitio actualis confusa") in John Duns Scotus. According to the author this object is the "species specialissima". I analyse also the criticism of Thomas De Vio Caietanus, in according to whom, on the contrary, the first object of the "cognitio actualis confusa" is being as being.
