The present study investigates the concept of "doxa", with the aim of retracing the process and the underlying reasons that have led it to acquire a pejorative connotation within the philosophical tradition. This semantic development can be traced primarily to Parmenides and to the earliest interpretations of his thought. The essay seeks to show that, although it is philosophically untenable to endorse contemporary attempts to rehabilitate Parmenides’ notion of "doxa", it remains possible to apprehend the concept without depreciating its significance. On the contrary, "doxa" may be understood as lying at the very core of a renewed metaphysical perspective – one that conceives human existence as defined by the awareness of the necessity to relinquish truth and its foundations, in favor of a disenchanted acceptance of one’s destiny, mitigated only by those fleeting moments in which we may experience the 'joy of living'.
