390The article analyzes the experience of proximity culture in Scampia (Naples) through associative experiences, particularly «Comitato Vele» and «GRIDAS», highlighting how these organizations have transformed the necessity of survival into innovative practices of cultural and social resistance. Born in the 1980s from the initiative of Vittorio Passeggio, the Comitato Vele anticipated models of civic participation by integrating the rights to work and housing and collective cultural production. GRIDAS subsequently strengthened this framework through an artistic-educational operation, as a toolkit for community emancipation. The experience reveals the contradictions of Italian social and cultural policies: rhetorical celebration of proximity culture on one hand, legal and economic precarity on the other. The ongoing urban regeneration, with ReStart Scampia project and the Vele’s pulling down, poses new challenges between transformation opportunities and risks of cultural gentrification, demonstrating that proximity culture is not an escape route but an innovative way of doing politics and building active citizenship.
