The article analyses State funding to the performing arts system in Italy between 2014 and 2025. For the first time, State contributions as a whole are studied in a large-term quantitative perspective, taking into account both the resources of the Fondo Unico per lo Spettacolo (Single Entertainment Fund, currently Fondo Nazionale per lo Spettacolo dal Vivo) and all the ministerial endowments other than the FUS/ FNSV, not recorded by the Observatory of the Ministry of Culture. The study is based on 57,000 public and private funding records (2014-2025) relating to 11,000 entities, collecting data from over 400 State provisions, 1,900 from Regions and local authorities, from more than 1,300 balance sheets and reports of companies, foundations and territorial entities. Data are analysed by the database Mappatura Italiana Dati Attività di Spettacolo dal Vivo (MIDAS), highlighting how the Italian performing arts system evolved before and after the health crisis, and how emergency measures led to a terrific increase of eclectic contributions that have become structural.
