The author, remaining within the scope of Freud’s thought, questions the scope for negation in «extreme situations» when the primary conflict is between the ego and external reality. Analyzing some characters in I. Kertész’s novel "Fateless", she discovers – in this case – that it concerns unconscious desires linked both to ambivalence toward «parents-protectors-rescuers» and to narcissistic desires for omnipotence and power.
