743This script explores how negation in Samuel Beckett’s work takes on complex forms – not only in content, but also within the very structure of his narratives. And yet, these negations are constantly circumvented through rhetorical figures and linguistic play, where affect and primary thought find both shelter and expression. Through a process of continual subtraction, Beckett brings all traditional models of meaning into a state of radical crisis. His writing enacts an anti-existentialist erosion of every attribute of subjectivity and every form of self-assertion. At the core of his poetics lies a praise of failure, understood as a final, defiant act of resistance against the ego’s aggressive drive for affirmation.
